Dr. ir. Laura Lee Stevens

Dr.ir. Laura Lee Stevens holds two MSc degrees in the fields of Architecture from Delft University of Technology, and in Biomimicry from Arizona State University. She is a biomimicry design educator in her role as a senior researcher/lecturer in the Industrial Design Engineering program at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. A sustainable Design instructor since 2007, she completed her PhD in Delft, where she wrote a series of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on the topic of Biomimicry Design Thinking Education as a methodology to enhance circular, systems-thinking solutions in design by learning from time-tested biological strategies and mechanisms found in nature. This was followed by a Postdoc on the same subject to develop the needed tools to and students to learn biomimicry more easily. She is a public speaker on this subject and has a passion to transfer this knowledge to others.

Niko Roorda

Dr. Niko Roorda has worked from 1991 on sustainable development, ESG and change management for universities, colleges and companies in several countries, as an education developer, author and senior consultant. Based on the first 20 years of his experience in these topics, he received his PhD from Maastricht University in 2010. For his achievements, Roorda received the Dutch National Award for Innovation and Sustainable Development. In 2018 he was selected by Leren voor Morgen as the Sustainable Teacher of the Year in the Higher Education category. His most recent textbook "Basisboek Duurzame Ontwikkeling" (5th edition) was published in 2025, simultaneously in Dutch, English and German.

Het boek is een aanvulling op de algemene didactiek en gaat in op de oorzaken en gevolgen van klimaatverandering en onrechtvaardigheid. Het verkent hoe docenten hun leerlingen kunnen trainen om actief bij te dragen aan duurzame ontwikkeling.

Yasmine Rugarli is the founder and director of United Rising, an organization established in 2023 dedicated to advancing climate justice, human rights, and systemic change. With a strong background in International and EU Law, she holds a Master’s in Law and Sustainability, which she leverages to bridge legal frameworks with urgent climate action and social justice advocacy. As a researcher and advocate, Yasmine explores the intersectional challenges faced by Indigenous communities, the role of ecofeminism, and food sovereignty in Global South contexts. Her work aims to amplify marginalized voices, highlight the structural inequalities embedded in environmental crises, and promote inclusive, rights-based solutions to global sustainability challenges.
