Curious how to manage and share 3D content for XR in a visually attractive yet sustainable and interoperable way at an institution or university? Join us to explore a TU Delft proof of concept using Smithsonian Voyager, linked via API to the university repository. Models get DOIs, SSO, and work in web, Unity, or Unreal. Let’s discuss next steps—your input shapes the future!
Do you need an attractive, reliable way to manage and share 3D models for XR use in your institution or lab? We do too…
In this open session, you'll explore a prototype of an open 3D asset platform at TU Delft by the NewMedia Centre and Library Learning Centre. This platform connects Smithsonian’s Voyager 3D viewer with the TU Delft Repository via a custom API. When users upload models, the system uses Surf SSO to handle some governance and the API provides an opportunity to link 3D assets to related publications, departments and DOIs for referencing.
This session gives you a chance to:
• See a working demo of OPEN3D, including Voyager with live 3D annotations and storytelling
• Discover how the platform enables reuse on the web & XR tools like Unity and Unreal
• Think more broadly about presentation and curation possibilities for 3D assets
• Ask questions, share your own challenges, and contribute ideas for improvement or cooperation
This session is beneficial if you’re wondering how to integrate 3D pipelines into XR workflows, ensure long-term access to 3D assets, or support your heritage/science content in XR with additional content through the API.
Bring your thoughts, use cases, plans or problems—and let’s build something useful together.
Who it's for:
If you're into XR design or development and work with 3D models or scans at a university or institution, this is for you. Same goes for folks in research infrastructure, heritage orgs with 3D scans, educators, data stewards, or anyone into digital preservation or curation—especially if you're looking for real, workable open 3D/XR solutions.
