How do you keep immersive learning alive in times of budget cuts, GenAI FOMO, busy schedules and Big Tech monopolies? Learn how pioneering lecturers and support staff of Hogeschool Rotterdam come together in a professional learning community. Together they learn new skills, discuss their experiences and even create DIY XR learning interventions.
Immersive learning, if done correctly, promotes deeper understandings of the subject matter. Unfortunately, gaining access to high quality content can be a challenge. It may be expensive or not tailored to the specific context. At Hogeschool Rotterdam we started a Professional Learning Group (PLG) to create our own content. A group of pioneering lecturers and support staff come together to learn new skills (step 1), discuss experiences (step 2) and to build a XR learning intervention like 360 video or AR application (step 3). Every member has their own educational challenge to tackle, but it is a journey we take on together. We communicate our findings to the rest of Hogeschool Rotterdam via podcasts and posters. Learn what we learned and join us in this interactive session!
Maaike works as an educational advisor on XR for Npuls and Hogeschool Rotterdam. She just started as practor Immersive Experiences at Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam and loves it. It is a privilege to dedicate your working life to immersive learning in Higher Education. My interests, besides immersive experiences ofcourse, are multimedia learning, visual literacy, learning technologies and creating/reading comics.
