When the National PID Centre at the National Library of Technology launched in January 2023, awareness of PIDs in the Czech Republic was still relatively low, and many relevant stakeholders across the research community did not yet recognize their practical value. Looking back at the three years of raising awareness and supporting the adoption of PIDs in the Czech research environment, you can learn what worked in the development of centralized PID support services. More importantly, you might benefit from the challenges the Czech PID Centre has encountered and, in some cases, continues to deal with. While some of these are specific to the Czech context, key lessons learned from, e.g, operating the national ORCID and DOI consortia along with insights from conducting a cost-benefit analysis as well as a national PID adoption survey can offer valuable inspiration - or a cautionary tale - applicable to your local context.

PIDs connect everything together, which requires significant collaboration across all research sectors and stakeholders. Ultimately, local resources and policies are required for a collaborative response to PIDs, which typically takes place at the regional or national levels - even though PIDs are essentially international endeavors. Without these national approaches, PIDs remain difficult to implement and scattershot in their adoption. As countries continue to develop and implement National PID Strategies at varying speeds and with varying levels of sophistication and community buy-in, this session offers a timely opportunity to reassess the global landscape and reflect on collective progress. There are many drivers of PID adoption and implementation globally - from the integration of PIDs into funder systems to the availability of resources in a given language, as just a couple of endless possible examples. Each national strategy approaches drivers differently, depending on their context and resources - how does your region approach PIDs?
