Alice Meadows
Alice is an independent consultant, who specializes in — and supports the values of — open research. She frequently collaborates with Open Research Ecosystem Consulting and was previously a co-founder of the MoreBrains Cooperative. Alice's career has spanned both scholarly publishing and research infrastructures. Alice is actively involved in the scholarly communications community, including as a regular contributor to their Scholarly Kitchen blog. She is passionate about the need for a robust and open global research infrastructure (with a particular interest in metadata and workflows) and about improving diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility - in scholarly communications and in society at large.

Persistent identifiers (PIDs) are essential for connecting the global research ecosystem, yet adoption often depends less on technical capability and more on whether stakeholders understand their value. Researchers, librarians, infrastructure providers, funders, and policymakers all interact with PIDs in different ways and are motivated by different incentives.
This interactive workshop introduces a persona-based approach to designing effective PID engagement strategies. After a short introduction exploring challenges and opportunities in PID adoption, participants will collaboratively develop stakeholder personas and identify motivations, barriers, and messaging strategies that resonate with them.
Through a structured group activity, participants will create “persona cards” representing real actors in the research ecosystem and design tailored PID messaging and value propositions for each.
This workshop will help develop the PID matrix created for the Canadian PID strategy into a tool that can be used by the PID community globally. After a brief history of why and how the matrix was developed, and an overview of the current version, the presenters will use interactive tools to ask participants to share their thoughts on the core elements, and on any new categories or elements needed. The rest of the workshop will be spent brainstorming next steps for the matrix, through a series of exercises.
