DESCRIPTION:Globally adopted persistent identifier infrastructures such as 
 Crossref\, DataCite\, and the Research Organization Registry (ROR) are cri
 tical to a connected research ecosystem. However\, sustaining these shared
  services requires more than technical standards. It depends on clear oper
 ational models\, shared principles\, and coordinated and strategic efforts
  to leverage\, connect\, and build upon existing solutions.\n\nThis presen
 tation focuses on the practical realities of sustaining open research infr
 astructure. Drawing on experience from Crossref\, DataCite and ROR\, we hi
 ghlight how community governance\, transparent operations\, and funding mo
 dels support long-term resilience\,\n\nargue for strengthening and connect
 ing existing infrastructure\, and share lessons on how organizations can w
 ork together to build a more coherent\, sustainable ecosystem that support
 s global research.

DESCRIPTION:In the AI era\, the explosive growth of science and technology 
 resources and interdisciplinary convergence have posed unprecedented chall
 enges to knowledge infrastructure. Ensuring that massive science and techn
 ology resources are Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable\, and Reusable (
 FAIR principles) on a global scale has become a central issue in the devel
 opment of open science. As the "digital ID card" for digital objects\, Per
 sistent Identifiers (PIDs) serve as the critical technical foundation for 
 connecting fragmented knowledge and building a trustworthy research ecosys
 tem.\nIn this workshop focuses on the opportunities and challenges of PID 
 infrastructure in the AI era\, exploring how persistent identifiers empowe
 r artificial intelligence to understand and connect scientific knowledge. 
 Representatives from DataCite\, South China Botanical Garden\, Chinese Nat
 ional Space Data Center and Africa PID Alliance are invited to share pract
 ices across different identifier systems and regions

DESCRIPTION:Connecting digital objects across the data repository landscape
  is critical for ensuring that open data are discovered and reused. Global
  adoption of common PIDs across repositories facilitates broad cross-repos
 itory discoverability\, enables impact assessment and researcher credit\, 
 and supports compliance monitoring by funders and institutions. The NIH Ge
 neralist Repository Ecosystem Initiative brings seven generalist repositor
 ies together - working in a “coopetition” model - with a key objective
  to connect digital objects by enhancing dataset metadata quality\, comple
 teness\, and consistency. Over the past 4 years GREI repositories have dev
 eloped and implemented a common metadata recommendation that relies heavil
 y on PIDs including DataCite DOIs\, ORCID\, and ROR. This presentation wil
 l showcase examples of GREI repository PID implementation\, use cases\, an
 d repository best practices\, as well as the impact of PID-based collabora
 tions with DataCite\, ROR\, and NLM\, and the value of common PIDs for aut
 hor\, affiliation\, and funding metadata in better connecting data reposit
 ories.
