Do you rely on ORCID, DOI or ROR to connect research information across systems, but still encounter missing affiliations and incomplete metadata?
In this session you will discover results from the Dutch Open Research Information Monitor, a national initiative that analyses how persistent identifiers are actually used across the research information ecosystem.
The monitor compares metadata across CRIS systems, OpenAlex, OpenAIRE and Crossref to identify gaps in PID coverage, metadata completeness and open licensing.
Using real use cases from universities and research funders, the monitor reveals where PIDs work well, where connections break, and what interventions could improve the ecosystem.

In this session, you’ll discover how we ran a parallel analysis of openly available transformative agreements listed in the ESAC registry to inventorize conditions for open metadata in publisher contracts, in an initiative connected to the Barcelona Declaration/OA2020 and OA Datenpraxis.

- existing gaps in contracts: e.g., permission for full text but not metadata reuse
- missing commitments of PID (ORCID, ROR, Funder ID) use and provision
- how metadata provision differs across consortia: to Crossref, library systems and discovery tools
- real-world data: e.g., ROR are rarely submitted to Crossref
We share our reusable analysis method so you can audit your own contracts, push for stronger open metadata clauses or contribute to this collectively organized analysis for publisher contracts in your country.
For data providers and data users there is increasing interest in using large scale snapshots of entire datasources. For data providers this can relieve the stress and cost of running APIs. For users it allows for new kinds of analysis, creating global benchmarks and identifying gaps. PIDs are at the centre of these analyses, allowing us to link large datasources together reliably. ORION-DBs is an effort to make data dumps more usable by exploiting the capability of Google BigQuery. Setting up this federated set of cloud data resources we have identified patterns in which datasets are easy to ingest, which are easy to use and how they can be combined. In this BoF session we focus on a facilitated discussion of what the optimum data snapshot looks like in format, structure, regularity, locations and how these can help (or hinder) the ability of users to fully exploit these datasets.
