The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka (CIPM), widely recognized as the Nation’s Leader in Human Resource Management (HRM), plays a significant role in advancing professional education, training, and research in Sri Lanka. As part of its commitment to strengthening the national HR research ecosystem, CIPM launched the CIPM Research Nexus in 2025 to serve as a centralized digital repository for preserving and disseminating its scholarly outputs. The repository consolidates diverse research collections, including electronic theses and dissertations, industrial case studies, international research symposium proceedings, research presentations, the Journal of HRM Perspectives, national research project monographs, and an open-access HRM knowledge repository. Although the CIPM Research Nexus is still at an early stage of development, the adoption of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) including ORCID for researchers, DOI for publications, and ROR for institutional identification should strengthen to enhance research visibility, discoverability, and credibility.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka (CIPM) is a leading professional and educational institution widely recognized as the Nation’s Leader in Human Resource Management (HRM) in Sri Lanka. The institute conducts numerous professional programs in HRM and plays a pivotal role in advancing HR knowledge and practice within the country. As a professional educational institution, CIPM’s research arm has undertaken the responsibility of establishing a digital repository to preserve and showcase its valuable research publications under a single platform.
As a result, CIPM launched the CIPM Research Nexus in 2025 with the objective of preserving its scholarly outputs and providing reliable access to its stakeholders. The repository currently hosts a range of research materials organized into several communities and collections, including:
• CIPM Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) [164]
• CIPM Industrial Case Studies [17]
• CIPM International Research Symposium Proceedings [364]
• International Research Presentations [6]
• Journal of HRM Perspectives [132]
• Monographs on National Level Research Projects [3]
• Open Access Repository on HRM [685]
• Research Monograph Series [1]
Although the CIPM Research Nexus is still at a grassroots stage, it represents an important starting point in introducing Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) namely ORCID IDs, DOIs, and the Research Organization Registry (ROR) institutional identifier to the national HR research community. Many researchers who publish in the repository already possess ORCID IDs, while research papers published in the Journal of HRM Perspectives receive DOIs through the National Science Foundation (NSF) of Sri Lanka. Furthermore, CIPM has officially registered with the Research Organization Registry (ROR) and obtained its unique institutional identifier.
One of the key challenges currently faced by CIPM is obtaining DOIs for other research outputs, including conference proceedings, monographs, and additional scholarly materials published by the CIPM. However, CIPM intends to address this challenge by securing grants and partnerships in order to expand PID implementation across all research outputs.
Through the development of the CIPM Research Nexus, the institute demonstrates a strong commitment to strengthening research infrastructure, promoting open access to HR knowledge, and educating stakeholders on the importance of persistent identifiers in scholarly communication. Although the repository is gradually expanding, CIPM aims to further enhance national research capacity and extend the reach of Sri Lankan HR research to the global scholarly community.
