Have you ever suggested an addition or update to ROR and wondered how the proposed changes got turned into an actual ROR record? Or have you wanted to suggest a change but weren’t sure how to proceed? If you’ve ever been curious to learn more about how the ROR registry is maintained, this interactive workshop will take you inside the entire process and give you a newfound appreciation for the humans, machines, and mechanisms that make it all possible.

In the first part of the three-part workshop, you’ll get an orientation - or a refresher - on ROR curation basics, including how requests are made, what’s in scope for the registry, how an organization’s metadata record is structured, and the community-developed policies and principles that guide ongoing curation decisions.

Next, you’ll get an inside view into how a curation request is processed, tracking how a user-submitted request is translated into a new or update record through a complex set of human and automated tasks that make sure all ROR records include complete, high-quality, multilingual metadata.

Finally, you’ll have a chance to participate in the process yourself, whether through submitting an individual request, preparing a bulk submission, or being a second set of eyes on an existing request - or all of the above! In this interactive portion of the workshop, you’ll have a chance to experience how small efforts by individual community members can make a big difference when it comes to metadata preparation and validation, and you’ll come away with tips and tricks that you can use and share with others.
