If there’s anything you need to know about miss Cheryl Andrea Fernando, it’s most definitely her love-hate relationship with AI. Sure, AI has helped her debug 1 in 5 bugs without making it significantly worse, but it’s the other 4 instances that make her question why she approached AI for help in the first place. Cheryl has a background in computer science and engineering, with much interest in cybersecurity and much more interest in wanting to help safeguard the world against the exploitative nature of AI. Just as a social human being, noticing how often people gravitate towards asking ChatGPT without a second thought even for the most simplest task, almost feels like there’s a growing lack of originality, creativity and cognitive ability making them feel like human side effects of AI. Currently working at SURF on the very same topic of AI Bot Mitigation, she hopes to come up with a solution that could help content owners safe guard their content from the pesky AI scraping bots that crawl the internet endlessly to feed their ever-growing machine learning model. Cheryl has a lot of creative passions and hobbies like crochet, sewing and music, accompanied by being chronically online and missing the days she could quite easily tell when something was AI generated.

Joost van Dijk is a developer advocate at Yubico. He focuses on securing digital identities and accelerating the adoption of open source authentication standards as part of Yubico’s developer program.

I’m Oscar Koeroo, i work in the cyber security space since 2003. I started at Nikhef as a computerprogrammer in C. Working with OpenSSL and libcurl I helped secure large HPC/HTC infrastructures. In 2013 I moved to KPN in the CISO office. I briefly joined the Red Team and moved to the policy team and grew to be the team leader for the team responsible for the cyber security policy and BCM. In 2021 I switched to the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports as the department CISO or CISO Concern with a responsibility to digitally security all organisations under administrative control of the minister. As such, i work together with other ministries and also in EU collaboration on PQC. I have a specialty in applied cryptography, large infrastructures, crisis management and complex governance structures.

At home and work i’m a Debian and MacOS user. The commandline is my weapon of choice. What i learn in my homelab hobby space might end up back into my workspace.

I guest lecture applied cryptography at the Leiden University. At the Security Academy i teach cryptography practisioner and quantum safe cryptography essentials.

Sinds augustus 2023 is Roy Kokkelkoren als coördinator verbonden aan het Security Operations Centre van de Universiteit Leiden. Met de ambitie om het SOC naar een hoger volwassenheidsniveau te tillen, werkt Roy samen met het team aan de voorbereiding op de snel veranderende dreigingen van vandaag. Daarnaast is Roy voorzitter van SCIRT, de SURF-community van Incident Response Teams. Voorafgaand aan zijn huidige functies was hij zeven jaar werkzaam als senior cyber security specialist bij het Nationaal Cyber Security Centrum. In deze rol droeg Roy bij als securityonderzoeker, fungeerde hij als technisch coördinator bij grote incidenten zoals Log4J, en was hij verantwoordelijk voor de operationele coördinatie rondom vraagstukken als slachtoffer- en doelwitnotificatie.
