[ENG] EOSC is live – a new phase for research and education
Ivar Janmaat

An open and trusted environment for data, tools, and services for researchers in Europe: that is the goal of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). On October 1, 2024, the EOSC EU Node officially launched: the first node of the EOSC federation. At first glance, this may not seem like a big change—just as the internet did not seem like one in 1994. Yet, in the years that followed, the internet radically changed our world.

What does EOSC mean for the Netherlands? What is ‘under the hood’? Who is involved and how are EU member states tackling this jointly? The long-term impact cannot yet be predicted – but the direction is clear: open, connected, and future-oriented research and education in Europe.
