This session focuses on both preserving and enhancing educational quality in higher education. Many institutions are confronted with budget cuts and at the same time structural challenges persist, such as a declining teacher-student ratio and decreasing support for lecturers. This puts pressure on assessment, interaction, feedback and didactic guidance. Through a use case at Leiden University, we will demonstrate how the FeedbackFruits Learning Design System can help address these challenges and improve the learning experience.
The FeedbackFruits Learning Design system provides an integrated, scalable solution with proven learning design templates applicable across departments, teaching formats, and modalities, thereby reducing teachers’ workload. By streamlining course design, feedback, and assessment – supported by AI – more space is created for high-quality education.
A concrete example where the system could add value is the project ‘FeedBACK AND FORTH’, a learning design in which students learn to actively and purposefully request feedback. This enables teachers to respond more efficiently to individual learning needs, optimizes feedback processes, and strengthens students’ feedback literacy.
This session, presented by Menno de Kok (FeedbackFruits) en Liza van den Bosch (Leiden University) shows how a unified system can contribute to stronger learning experiences. You will gain practical insights and see preliminary results, and you are invited to share ideas on sustainable innovation in higher education.
Liza van den Bosch is an assistant professor of educational sciences at Leiden University. In terms of educational innovation, Liza set up the project ‘FeedBACK AND FORTH: Optimizing feedback interactions between students and teachers in higher education’. Based on insights from theory and educational practice, a digital tool was developed and implemented which supports students to request feedback and enables teachers to respond more efficiently and effectively to the needs of individual students.
