Blended learning offers powerful opportunities to deliver flexible, inclusive and future-oriented education. However, many institutions struggle to move away from technology-driven, ad hoc interventions towards evidence-based, sustainable and scalable blended learning. In times of rapid social and technological development, it is essential that higher education evolves accordingly. Institutions, lecturers, programmes and support staff must embark on a sustainable transformation towards high-quality and mature blended learning. This workshop offers an evidence-based framework and practical tools and resources to bring about that transformation.
To support this transition, in this workshop we will be working with the updated EMBED+ Framework. EMBED+ is a multidimensional framework that offers organisations, lecturers, support staff and study programmes guidance and direction in making a sustainable and well-founded transition to mature blended learning. The framework has been developed based on the latest academic insights and practical experiences from various European higher education institutions, and has been validated by dozens of experts.
By the end of this workshop, you will have:
- applied the EMBED+ Framework within your own educational context;
- used the digital EMBED+ Resources Hub to find best practices and open resources from European higher education institutions;
- exchanged experiences and best practices with colleagues from other institutions;
- had the opportunity to add your own best practice or open resource to the EMBED+ Hub.
EMBED+ is a European Erasmus+ project and a collaboration between KU Leuven (Belgium), TAMK (Finland), EADTU (the Netherlands), Université de Lille (France) and TU Delft (the Netherlands). At the heart of EMBED+ lies a dynamic ResourcesHub packed with teaching materials, toolkits and best practices. These are designed to help institutions further develop their blended learning. As a maturity model, EMBED+ acts as a roadmap guiding institutions through the further development of their blended learning. For further information, see the project website https://embedplus.eu.
There is a framework and a set of tools to ensure that courses, programmes and institutions are made robust and future-proof in a well-founded manner.
Wiebe Dijkstra is een onderwijsadviseur Blended Learning aan de TU Delft. Hij is een expert op het gebied van ontwerpen, ontwikkelen en implementeren van blended onderwijs. In de afgelopen jaren heeft hij tientallen docententeams begeleid bij het ontwikkelen van blended onderwijs, is hij docent geweest bij de Masteropleiding Onderwijs en Technologie, heeft hij DARE ontwikkeld; een ontwerpmethodiek voor blended onderwijs en is hij betrokken bij de de Erasmus+ projecten EMBED en EMBED+.
Katie Goeman, a PhD holder in Social Sciences, investigates online and blended teaching and learning approaches, as well as technology integration in contexts of formal education or training. She is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the KU Leuven (Campus Brussels). Additionally, she is affiliated with the Centre for Instructional Psychology and Technology at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences in the same institution. She has been involved in various Flemish projects (e.g., Monitor AI in Vlaams Onderwijs, Digitale School) and European R&D initiatives such as ICILS, Re-Justice, EMBED and EMBED+. She has also collaborated with governments and private organisations to train trainers and assess initiatives and outcomes.
