How can we help lecturers quickly find the right educational support, inspiration and expertise without getting lost in an overload of information? During this session, we will share how Maastricht University is developing both physical and digital Teacher Information Points (TIPs) to help lecturers connect, collaborate and get answers to their educational questions more easily.
At Maastricht University, lecturers from different faculties, disciplines and education contexts often find it difficult to learn from one another or to make sense of the many support initiatives available to them. As a result, valuable knowledge and expertise can remain scattered across the university, while lecturers and support staff experience frustration and information overload.
As part of the UM CTL project, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education and coordinated by Npuls, we* are working towards two complementary initiatives to better support lecturers:
- Faculty Teacher Information Points (TIPs): onsite, in person support points where lecturers can turn for advice, co creation and knowledge sharing.
- A Teacher Information Portal (TIP): an online platform (hosted in Azure Cloud, also enabling to identify users and thus be as specific as possible and open up to information behind login) where staff can find relevant information and practical answers to their questions. We recently developed a prototype featuring:
• a search engine that gives fast access to UM resources, supports self directed exploration and delivers concise summaries in response to questions;
• an AI supported chatbot that brings together information from multiple sources, supports follow up questions and refinements, and provides guidance instead of isolated answers;
• a planned third feature that will allow staff to exchange practices, start collaborations and strengthen a community of practice around education design and delivery. This feature is planned for Q2 and Q3 of 2026.
During this session, we will also briefly share experiences from users who have tested and reflected on the Proof of Concept, which we expect to launch before the upcoming academic year.
Participants will be taken through our development process, both technical and organisational. We hope the session will lead to conversations with others willing to share their own needs as searchers, while also sharing experiences from their own perspective as teachers, support staff or developers.
*In this project, we collaborate with CTL staff, TIP coordinators, the ICT department and students from several Honours programmes at Maastricht University, who contributed to the development of the portal.
Een goed gevoede en getrainde chatbot helpt docenten snel en accuraat aan de juiste informatie en ervaringen van anderen om hun onderwijs te ontwikkelen, geven en te evalueren.
Ik ben opgeleid tot onderwijspsycholoog en werk nu al meer dan twintig jaar op het gebied van instructional design en e-learning. Eerst als onderzoeker (gericht op het faciliteren van computerondersteund samenwerkend leren), daarna als e-learning consultant in welke rol ik docenten ondersteunde bij het herontwerp van hun onderwijs, vaak in het licht van digitale mogelijkheden.
Vanaf 2023 breng ik deze expertise in bij EDLAB, het Centre for Teaching and Learning aan de Universiteit Maastricht. Ik richt me op de impact van technologie op onderwijs en faciliteer diverse projecten en activiteiten. Vanuit dit perspectief vervul ik ook de rol van UM-programmacoördinator voor de deelname van de UM aan het landelijke Npuls programma (lid sleutelteam, projectleider CTL-project). Ik zal deze presentatie geven vanuit mijn rol als deelprojectleider Teacher Information Platform dat een van de ambities van het CTL-project is.
