A common question for Privacy Officers is whether a participant's signature is indeed required to demonstrate and document their consent. In this poster presentation, we address this question with the practical, legal and ethical reasons why asking participants in social science research projects to sign a consent form is almost never required, especially when the participant's true identity is not expected to be recorded in the research dataset.
