Understanding societal challenges like polarization, pandemic preparedness, migration and the housing crisis all depend on one thing: high quality social sciences datasets. Such data are collected through various universities, research institutes and (governmental) organizations in the Netherlands. To make these datasets findable, the ODISSEI Portal has been developed as the place to discover social science datasets in the Netherlands.
In the Portal, anyone can search through more than 10.000 datasets within one integrated interface. Instead of visiting every institute that hosts social science data separately, all information is visible and harmonized within one interface.
Our ambition is to provide full coverage of all available data and we want to use this opportunity to present the Portal to all SURF members! This session is meant in particular for institutes that hold social sciences data which are not yet included in the Portal. We will present the ODISSEI Portal and explain how providers can onboard their data collections. We will showcase the various benefits of onboarding metadata and how the Portal improves data discovery in the Netherlands as well as in international data aggregators.
