How can you take open educational resources to the next level? In this session, we will give you insight into the success of ‘Boost your Information Literacy collection’, a unique collaborative project between universities of both hbo and wo. You will hear how institutions have worked together to clean up, strengthen and future-proof an existing collection – and what that has meant for teachers, students and the community.
Based on lessons learned from the project, you will discover how your institution can strengthen its own collection with better metadata, sustainable tools such as Xerte, and joint quality agreements. You will also receive practical tips for curation, accessibility and collaboration across institutions.
This session is intended for anyone who works with open educational resources and is curious about how you can achieve more together. You will go home with concrete insights, practical examples and, above all, the inspiration to continue building OPEN education in your institution.
‘Boost your Information Literacy collection’ was a successful collaboration project between universities of both hbo and wo in the Netherlands. What started as an unorganised collection of 500+ open educational resources on information literacy ended up as a structured, accessible and reusable collection. The secret? Smart curation, powerful collaboration and the use of the right workflow.
What you will learn in this session:
- how collaboration between institutions led to sustainable quality assurance of open learning materials;
- which practical methods and tools (such as Xerte) made the difference;
- how to ensure up-to-date, accessible and well-metadated learning materials that are actually used.
We will take you through our greatest successes and valuable insights. These include:
- setting up standard procedures for uploading and curation;
- involving content creation teams and information specialists;
- focusing on accessibility and reusability;
- the power of shared ownership within a community.
The familiar Information Literacy boom with which the project began will be briefly revisited as a visual retrospective. But the emphasis will be on what has grown: collaboration, quality and future-proof support for open education.
For whom?
This session is intended for teachers, information specialists, educational support staff and policymakers who work with open educational resources or want to do so. Whether you work on content locally or on policy nationally, you will find recognition, inspiration and practical tools here.
